The Team and The Task

The Team and The Task

My team's first week task.

The team and the task. What team and what task? you are probably wondering. Well, wonder no more.

About two months ago, I and a bunch of strangers signed up for the Sidehustle internship program. For some, they signed up to learn a new skill, for others, to brush up their knowledge of a field and of course, the curious cats, who sign up for things just to see how it will go.

Well, whatever reason these strangers signed up for, it was surely worth the time and resources used on the internship as we all took it a step further by enrolling in the ongoing Bootcamp.

So here comes the team.

The unique thing about Sidehustle Bootcamp is that it offers real-life work experience, where students get to work on portfolios that will serve as their firsthand practical of whatever they learned from the internship; thus we were put in a team that consists of Product managers, frontend developers, CRM, Video animator, Data Analytics, backend developer, Product designers, digital marketers and graphic designers.

Each week we will be given a task and all hands must be on deck to deliver before the deadline. Every department has a separate task; Collectively we are to build an online job board startup that lists job openings for interested candidates.

The product managers started by running user research on the project through an online survey, the link is attached.

Preparing a survey was certainly the easiest part of this task. Where the real work began was in building our user flow, user persona and PRD form. For a bunch of amateurs, this gave us serious headaches, however, the job must be done and so, we began how we could.

The link below takes you to our user flow. The flow was sha flowing because, for first-timers, I think we did a pretty good job. This was done using Miro.

From the survey feedback, we understood our user's pain points to be the Inability to view the salary range and benefits on all jobs listed, lack of flexibility, and redirection links that lead them out of the site. This user persona was created on smaply.

Some highlights of our website features were then defined to include:

•An option to search for jobs down to the locality of every city/state in Nigeria.

•Ability for users to offer paid services on the site.

•Compulsory display of salary range and benefits.

• Single-user messaging.

•An option to edit your contact details on the app.

At this point, the team prepared our Product Requirement Document and shared it with the Frontend developers and product designers.

The product design team was tasked with designing a landing page for the product, carrying out user research and creating a design system. you can check out their work in the link below.

The Data Analytics team was tasked with researching recent trends in the industry to give insight into your product. This team sure had their fair dose of headaches too because every time they thought their work was done, they realise more had to be done.

The digital marketing team was on fire, as in, their head dey hot. For this week's task, they may just be the most enthusiastic of all departments. From the get-go, they swung into action as their task was to set up social media accounts/pages on all platforms and to create a social media strategy and a content calendar for September which they delivered excellently. Dare I say I envy their team?

Another team that brought their A-game was the graphic designers whose task was to design a Team flyer showing the pictures of every member of the team and design a logo for the startup. You need to see our flyer, so professional, so fun and easy to look at. The Logo certainly represents the project perfectly. Safe to say everyone on the team approved of their work. The tools used in designing the flyers were Photoshop, Corel Draw Along with Canva and Autodesk Sketchbook.

Last but not least on this week's task was Customer Relationship Management, which was to research and understand what our customers/target audience wants and start work on a FAQ document for the project.

Phew, dem no dey tell person.

It has become clear that signing up for this boot camp is not a joke. My team and I look forward to our next task. Stay with us through this exciting journey.

Cheers.
